We are saddened by the news that our kindergarten teacher, Mrs Katherine Groat passed away early this morning. Mrs. Groat was someone who was born and raised in the community of South Naknek, and has spent the last 40 years working in our schools. She was a remarkable teacher, a caring and compassionate person, and someone we will miss dearly. The School Board, district staff, and community will have Mrs. Groat and her family in our thoughts throughout this school year and beyond.
Adding a Printer to the Network
First, setup the printer in DHCP and DNS:
- Plug printer into network and turn it on. By default it should be configured for DHCP. If it isn't, then make it so.
- Print a config page from the printer to get its MAC address and temporary IP.
- Find the printer section of netmap and add this printer to it, incrementing the DNS name and IP address.
- Setup DHCP reservation for the printer using DNS name and IP address from netmap. Make sure to follow the convention used by all the other printer reservations.
- Add DNS A record for the printer's DNS name and IP address.
- reboot the printer
- Ping the DNS name to verify the DHCP reservation worked. Make sure it's got the right IP.
- Download the Windows 2000 / XP / Windows 2003 and OSX printer drivers and put them in \\printers\installers\_printer-drivers. This may simply be a PPD file if the printer is a postscript printer.
.
Now setup the printer on the Windows print server
- RDP to "printers" and add the printer using a Standard TCP/IP port. When it asks for the address of the printer, use the DNS name (aka prnXX).
- When asked to enter the share name, use the convention for existing printers (aka admin_office or 3rd).
- Add the printer \\primary\netlogon\scripts\conf\ou_printer_map
.
If the printer supports mDNS, aka Bonjour:
- Login to its web interface, find the mDNS or Bonjour area (sometimes called Zero Configuration) and give it the name you want to appear on the network (aka admin_office or 3rd).
.
If the printer does not support mDNS, then set it up on the Macintosh server:
- In Server Admin, print section, click on the + sign to add a new printer. For address use the DNS address. For Queue name use the friendly network name (aka admin_office or 3rd).
- Uncheck all protocols but IPP.
- Go to Print & Fax, double-click the printer, and add it's driver if it isn't automatically recognized. Note that some printers from Dell the driver can be found under another manufacturer. EG the Dell 1700n can use the Lexmark E332 driver. Google!
- Mac users will now be able to see the printer when they go to add printers.
- Printer-friendly version
