The District is happy to announce the hire of Ms. Mary Fundeen and Ms. Diane Seitz to fill our final two elementary positions. Ms. Fundeen is a graduate of Bristol Bay and someone who just completed her student teaching experience in our school. Ms. Seitz has many years of teaching experience, most recently in Chevak, Alaska. We are very excited that both women chose Bristol Bay as their next step.
Please help all of us welcome our new teachers! We know the new year will be very exciting for all.
Student Laptop Program
Here is a link to Apple's page on 1-to-1 Learning. More content coming soon.
Its been a great year in Naknek for our laptop program and its amazing to see all of the student work and class projects that have been developed. There have been student presentations at school board meetings using powerpoints and keynote presentations, a new blog to highlight developments in the vocational program, and a number of projects by other students using our new mobile laptop carts. High school students are using the laptops to participate in a Spanish class taught by distance and while on the road with sports and other activities they are able to keep in contact with their teachers and classmates and stay caught up with assignments.
- Click on the attachment below to see a Keynote presentation a high school senior presented at our school board meeting to describe his reaction to the 2008 Alaska Federation of Natives Conference. (in progress)
- Recently our fourth graders made some videos about dogsledding and the Iditarod and that project is near completion. Check back later to see those great videos.
- Take a look at our high school Volkswagon project and follow their progress on the blogspot... www.alaskabug.blogspot.com. A DVD on the project also highlights the plan from start to finish and we hope to have that online, soon.
- Read what parents, staff, and board members say about our laptop program and its potential to change the way we teach and learn as a school community. Those comments are included in the powerpoint entitled:
- The attachment entitled CDL Presentation 309 highlights some of our district work with AASB to initiate and sustain our laptop program. It was recently presented at the AASB meeting in Juneau.
- Several of our district technology efforts have been featured in the Association of Alaska School Board's recent newsletter. We are thankful and very proud of that recognition and appreciate AASB's ongoing support. The newsletter is attached.
