Superintendent Opening

Thanks for your interests in the Bristol Bay Borough School District.  The Board has recently accepted the resignation of our Superintendent, to be effective at the end of this school year.  Mr. Walsh has been in that position for 6 years and has decided to pursue a different Alaska leadership opportunity.  The District is interested in finding a qualified superintendent who has experience and knowledge of rural Alaska education, and a proven track record of helping students and staff members find success in school.  The successful candidate for the 2013-2014 year must hold, or be eligible for an Alaska Type B Superintendent credential. Three years successful experience in building or district leadership is preferred, and the candidate must be a person who has a good understanding of curriculum, instruction, and assessment, staff and teacher evaluation.  The district believes our next superintendent must be committed to team building, engaging the community, and supporting the student voice in decision-making.  Experience living and working in rural and remote locations, working with Alaska Native students and families, and an ability to enjoy life, are all important and necessary skills.

Bristol Bay is a district dedicated to providing a top quality educational program for our borough residents. While we did not make our AYP target for graduation rate in 2011, we met all academic targets.  In every other year, since the start of NCLB, we have made AYP in all areas, and that was due to the combined efforts of our staff, students, and families.  We are one of only a small number of Alaska districts who had made all of these targets in most years of No Child Left Behind.  We have appreciated all the interests we have seen from many talented teachers and school leaders over the years to be a part of our team.

More information on the District and the Superintendent position will be posted on our website, the Association of Alaska School Boards (AASB) and at the Alaska Teacher Placement (ATP) websites in the next week.

Interested candidates are encouraged to send a cover letter, a minimum of three letters of reference, and a current resume to the district prior to the March 11, 2013 deadline. References should include former supervisors and Board Members.  Finalists will be selected and notified by March 17, and interviews will be conducted in Naknek, AK after March 27, 2013.

The district does have other openings for substitutes, and occasionally we have classified positions for local residents to work as classroom aides, bus drivers, and other jobs.
