Teaching Alaska Culture in Our School

The students and staff in the Bristol Bay Borough School District have an active interest in participating in cultural and traditional learning and activities.  Over the years we have re-introduced and expanded these opportunities to run throughtout the school year and during our summer programs.  There is a great partnership with local elders and artists who have srerved as our instructors and guides on this journey.
Our Native Education Grant that was awarded in 2010 has been a great opportunity and will help these programs and efforts to grow in the next few years.  We are always looking for local elders and artists to share their talents with staff and students.  Please contact the school office if you would like to be a part of our future programs.

Bristol Bay Heritage Project
Another activity and project building momentum is the Bristol Bay Heritage Project which will create a digital archive of photos, documents, historic maps, and other artifacts about our region, our families, and our history.  Started with a $25,000 grant from the Alaska Community Foundation, we are working with staff, students, families, and local historians to develop a framework for a searchable archive and repository.  Look for training opportunities this fall, and for more chances to get involved, soon.
